See Ya Later Ranch 2016 Gewurztraminer - 87pts

See Ya Later Ranch 2016 Gewurztraminer (Okanagan Falls) Okanagan Valley - BC

Availability: Available at BCLDB and VQA stores. Winery site here
Cost: $14-17 + taxes
Alcohol: 13.5%
Date Tasted: June 23rd, 2017

Tasting Notes: A staple of the See Ya Later Ranch portfolio for over a decade, this full-bodied Gewurztraminer
offers good typicity for the variety which thrives in the cooler corners of sunny vineyards. Most vintages feature between 10-15% of Ehrenfelser for added spice and tangyness.

The 2016 is extra tangy with crab-apple and citrus acidity and flavours balancing the classic lychee, mineral and peach notes. A well-priced summer sipper to be enjoyed on its own or with spicy Thai food. Drink now-2018.

See Ya Later Ranch 2015 Pinot Gris - 87pts

See Ya Later Ranch 2015 Pinot Gris (Okanagan Falls) Okanagan Valley - BC

Availability: Available at BCLDB and VQA stores. Winery site here
Cost: $13-15 +taxes
Alcohol: 13.5%
Date Tasted: April 27th, 2016

Tasting Notes: Light brass in colour, the See-Ya-Later Ranch Pinot Gris is an exceptionally well-priced wine that often goes on sale for $12.99 at the BCLDB stores (plus taxes) offering a slightly, off-dry and unctuous version of BC's most planted white variety. Orchard and exotic fruit mingle on the medium-intense nose with pleasant notes of honeycomb and minerals in the background. The fruit carries through to the boisterous palate which lacks refinement but packs a punch keeping your senses engaged. Finish is long but a tad sharp. A solid effort nonetheless.
 Drink now-2017.

See Ya Later Ranch 2013 Gewurztraminer - 87pts

See Ya Later Ranch 2013 Gewurztraminer (Okanagan Falls) Okanagan Valley - BC

Availability: Available at BCLDB and VQA stores. Winery site here
Cost: $14-17
Alcohol: 13.5%
Date Tasted: April 10th, 2014

Tasting Notes: Part of Constellation Brands' large family of BC wineries, See Ya Later Ranch has done a good job remaining the least 'corporate' feeling of their many Okanagan properties, producing a wide range of approachable, well-made, single-varietal wines and blends. Their Gewurztraminer fits the mould with its playful nose and ripe, juicy, off-dry palate, balanced nicely with crab apple acidity. Lychee and white peach aromas and flavours dominate while apple cider and mineral notes add complexity.

Most vintages feature 10-15% Ehrenfelser blended in for added drama and tangyness. Enjoy this wine in the year it was produced or within 1-2 years afterwards. A fine summer sipper and a great match for popcorn. Drink now-2015.

See Ya Later Ranch 2008 Rover - 89-90pts

See Ya Later Ranch 2008 Rover (Okanagan Falls) Okanagan Valley - BC

Availability: Available at BCLDB and VQA stores
Cost: $25
Alcohol: 14%
Date Tasted: January 12th, 2011

Tasting Notes: A solid follow-up to the excellent 2007 vintage which may not be quite as impressive in its youth, but possesses the same fortitude to deliver, over time, similar concentrated and brooding dark cherry, spicy pepper, toasted oak and licorice characters as its predecessor. Light aromatic notes on the nose make this release distinct while the long, balanced finish with lingering pepper speaks to its quality. Enjoy this wine on its own or with a mean and manly steak. Drink 2011-2015.

See Ya Later Ranch 2007 Rover - 90pts

See Ya Later Ranch 2007 Rover (Okanagan Falls) Okanagan Valley - BC

Availability: Direct from winery. VQA stores. 2008 vintage also available.

Cost: $25

Alcohol: 14.5%

Date Tasted: May 29th, 2010

Tasting Notes: Intense, developing aromas of black berries, plums, ripe cherries, vanilla, cedar and peppercorns greet you on the nose. The smooth textured palate follows-up with flavours of big, bold berries and lots of spices: cooking spice, cardamom and pepper. A firm structure of high tannins frames the fruit on the palate nicely. Very well balanced.

Aged in 60% French and 40% American oak for 18 months. An Australian-style blend of 95% Shiraz and 5% Viognier (minus the eucalyptus/mint aromas). This is a gorgeous BBQ wine whose robust tannins will pair well with a good steak or grilled lamb. Drink now through 2014.

See Ya Later Ranch 2008 Riesling - 87pts

See Ya Later Ranch 2008 Riesling (Okanagan Falls) Okanagan Valley - BC

Availability: Widely available.

Cost: $14.99 (2008 vintage on sale currently)

Alcohol: 14%

Date Tasted: March 26th, 2010

Tasting Notes: If you like well-balanced, nicely-perfumed and tartly-acidic Rieslings with a bit of residual sugar, then this offering from See-Ya-Later Ranch will suit you well, and at a good price to boot.

Straight-forward and easy drinking, this wine doesn't offer the complexity of some of BC's top Rieslings (like Joie Farm or Tantalus) but it does offer solid, food-enhancing, quench-fulfilling, unpretentious, mouth-watering tastiness. This is an excellent hot summer deck or food wine that could be paired with more complex, spicy food and make that dish better. Drink now through 2012.

PS: I'm looking forward to tasting the next vintage to see if the extra heat and sunshine of 2009 has added a touch of complexity to the solid base of this enjoyable Riesling. For more information on See-Ya-Later Ranch wines visit their website at http://www.sylranch.com/

See Ya Later Ranch 2006 Ping - 90-91 pts

See Ya Later Ranch 2006 Ping (Okanagan Falls) Okanagan Valley - BC

Availability: Widely available. BCLDB Stores. VQA Stores. The Wine Emporium.

Cost: $27.99

Alcohol: 14.3%

Date Tasted: December 25th, 2009

Tasting Notes: Another winner from Okanagan Falls producer See-Ya-Later-Ranch. This Vincor-owned Estate Winery produces an impressive flight of whites and reds that successfully find the delicate balance between quality, drinkability and price. This Bordeaux inspired blend is no exception. A mixture of 57% Merlot, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Cabernet Franc, this wine offers you pleasant and welcoming aromas of dark cherries, nibs, vanilla and licorice. On the palate you will find an impressive continuity of flavours from the nose: dark cherries, nibs and the vanilla with added oak references and high tannins and acid.
With the prominent presence of the tannins and acid I will be curious to see how this wine ages as it is enclosed with a Stelvin cap which slows down aging to a crawl - to the degree that some believe no aging occurs (but the jury is still out on the agability of screw-top enclosed wines). It has the taste of a wine that needs further aging, even when given the full two-hour decanting, Venturi-pour and Eisch "Breathable Glass" treatment. My suggestion is to open the wine and the reseal a full day in advance of serving it as I found it drinking more "complete" the second day. Drink 2009-2012 (but maybe much longer). - LC
