Tasting Notes: The 2017 edition of this entry-level Cabernet Sauvignon from Mascota Vineyards (producers of the divine Unanime) is an, overall, more balanced wine. Especially on the palate where, in previous years, wild berry acidity was relied upon to off-set high levels of residual sugar. For 2017, we see a cut back in the RS and the acidity used to keep the palate vibrant and food friendly, a welcomed change and one that better compliments the ripe, yet, brambly, wild berry and savoury spice flavour profile. Excellent value. Drink 2019-2022.

Tasting Notes: A little more residual sweetness in the 2016 vintage release of this budget, licorice-blueberry scented Malbec from Pascual Toso results in a touch of flabbiness on the berry'n'spice palate, though, a nice bite of tangy/bitter acai berry and pomegranate fruit on the finish aides the overall balance. Drink now-2020.

Tasting Notes: A smooth, sensual Malbec, not overly complex or deep, more of a surface beauty, but pretty, nonetheless with a bright and playful palate of juicy and mouth-watering ripe, blackberry and black cherry fruit flavours and a moderate, dry finish consisting of spice and toasted oak notes. Ready to go now. Drink through 2021.

Tasting Notes: So consistent and so well priced, the Pascual Toso Malbec is ripe'n'tangy without tasting overdone or too sweet - like too many other wines do at this price-point. Though not overly complex, there is still plenty of dark berry fruit and spice characters to pick-out on the well balanced nose and palate, as well as, hints of earth, licorice and oak notes which linger on the moderate finish. Drink now-2020.

Tasting Notes: The appealing nose of ripe cassis, brambly cherries and spiced oak is a little let down by the slightly, unbalanced palate, which, although finishes dry, is top-heavy with intense, wild berry acidity used to off-set the residual sugar perceptible upon entry. Drink now-2017.

Smooth throughout, on the nose with a pleasant combination of blackberry, spice and menthol, and on the mild-tannin palate where similar flavours blend nicely with a touch of toasted oak. Pair with roasted, pork tenderloin dish. Drink now-2018.
