Osoyoos Larose 2009 Petales d'Osoyoos - 90+pts

Osoyoos Larose 2009 Petales d'Osoyoos (Osoyoos Lake) Okanagan Valley - BC

Availability: Widely available in BCLDB stores
Cost: $25
Alcohol: 13.5%
Date Tasted: September 14th, 2012

Tasting Notes: The best Petales since 2006 with a complex profile of dark fruit, toasted oak, sweet anise, and light graphite aromas and flavours. The palate offers well structured, ripe tannins and starts with a very dry, gripping texture that succumbs nicely to the juicy fruit flavours resulting in a balanced wine with a long, decently refined finish. May develop further with mid-range aging possibilities. Drink 2013-2015.

Osoyoos Larose 2008 Petales d'Osoyoos - 86pts

Osoyoos Larose 2008 Petales d'Osoyoos (East Bench Osoyoos) Okanagan Valley - BC

Availability: BCLDB and VQA stores
Cost: $25
Alcohol: 13.5%
Date Tasted: December 27th, 2011

Tasting Notes: A blend of all 5 red Bordeaux varieties with Merlot in the lead, this "second wine" from Osoyoos Larose takes a turn towards bitter oak and tobacco products for the 2008 vintage. A slightly cooler vintage compared to the 2007 and 2006 growing seasons, the 2008 has the intensity and complexity one comes to expect from the Petales, but the flavour profile on offer of cassis, tar, pepper, pine cones and toasted oak is dominated by somewhat unripe, course tannins and an ultra-dry mouth feel. May round a bit with more bottle time as we wait in anticipation of the ripe 2009 version to be released. Drink now-2014.

Osoyoos Larose 2007 Petales d'Osoyoos - 88-90pts

Osoyoos Larose 2007 Petales d'Osoyoos (Osoyoos Lake) Okanagan Valley - BC

Availability: Widely available in BCLDB stores
Cost: $25 (BC)
Alcohol: 13.5%
Date Tasted: June 11th, 2010

Tasting Notes: The Petales d'Osoyoos may be the winery's "second" wine to the powerhouse Le Grand Vin, but it's a fine wine in its own right. Definitely approachable much earlier than its big brother but built to last just the same.

The medium intense nose offers blackberry, licorice, dark chocolate, sweet sawdust, vanilla and oak aromas. Firm tannins support the concentrated dark fruits and toasted oak flavours that dominate the dry palate. Prominent acid and savoury notes make this wine very food-friendly. Pair with a grilled red meats or a nice roast. Will develop over the next two years and become a 90pts wine. Drink 2011-2015.

Osoyoos LaRose 2006 Petales d'Osoyoos - 90pts

Osoyoos LaRose 2006 Petales d'Osoyoos (Osoyoos) Okanagan Valley - BC

Availability: Widely available in BC

Cost: $25

Alcohol: 13.9%

Date Tasted: November 30th, 2009

Tasting Notes: Following the Bordeaux tradition of using the best grapes for the Chateaux's flagship wine and then using the remaining grapes for another release, this "Second Label" wine from outstanding southern Okanagan producer Osoyoos LaRose is a fantastic Meritage blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot.

An inky-garnet coloured wine with intense aromas of dark fruit, licorice and pencil shavings on the nose. The palate offers developing flavours of nibs, dark fruit, vanilla, leather with exciting spicy notes. Good tannins and acidity will allow for further development yet the wine very approachable now with patient decanting. Drink now through 2012. - LC
