Tasting Notes: Keeps to the house style of a feminine and spicy Malbec with concentrated, blue fruit and sweet pipe tobacco characters and smoky tannins, yet the mouthfeel is slightly watered-down for the 2017 vintage which tends to heighten the spiciness without enough body to fully even the overall balance. Still, for the price, we're nitpicking here and this Malbec offers excellent value.

Tasting Notes: A Malbec-y Cabernet Sauvignon from Mendoza with plenty of lifted, mixed berry fruit on the fruit-forward nose and the medium-plus bodied, (mostly) dry palate. Savoury layers compliment the fruit nicely with a solid structure of smooth tannins, wild berry acidity and cool spice notes. Offers excellent value with no component out-of-place.

Tasting Notes: A doppelganger to the excellent 2014 edition, with a similar profile that combines red and black berries, sweet pipe tobacco, herbs and spice on the feminine nose and medium-plus bodied palate where the long-ish finish is nicely framed by fine, smoky tannins, rounded, berry acidity and lingering spice

Availability
: BCLDB Stores
Cost: $15.99 + taxes

Tasting Notes: A dark ruby-purple, fruit-forward Cabernet Sauvignon from Mendoza that delivers a Malbec-y nose of mixed berry fruit and spicy plum aromas followed by a more typically Cabernet palate of cassis and oak supported by savoury flavours and firm tannins. Balance skews a bit 'sweet' but this is (mostly) offset by spice and oak notes and some solid acidity on the finish.

Bodegas Escorihuela 2012 '1884' Reservado Malbec - 88pts

Bodegas Escorihuela 2012 '1884' Reservado Malbec (Mendoza) Argentina

Availability
: BCLDB Stores
Cost: $16.99
Alcohol: 13.7%
Date Tasted: March 14th, 2014

Tasting Notes: There's a warm smokiness on the nose of this Malbec that envelopes the blue fruit, mocha and light spice aromas while hints of vanilla and oak poke through the fog adding impressive depth and complexity for this price point.

The palate is very modern with approachable berry fruit, vibrant acidity and enough residual sugar to add body and texture - happily, just a scosche of sweetness. Pepper and grapefruit peel flavours linger on the moderate-plus finish. A match for sweet'n'spicey BBQ ribs if ever there was one. Drink now-2016.
