Chateau Haut-Bergey 2012 Grand Vin - 89pts

Chateau Haut-Bergey 2012 Grand Vin (Pessac-Leognan) Bordeaux - France

Availability: Widely available at BCLDB stores
Cost: $40-50
Alcohol: 12.5%
Date Tasted: July 24th, 2022

Tasting Notes: At 10 years of age, the 2012 Haut-Bergey has developed lovely, dense, prune and eucalyptus notes on the dark fruit nose which carry through to the peaking palate.
A blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot with, predictably, mellowed tannins and acid. A well-balanced, albeit, shorted finish completes the sip down memory lane. Drink now-2023.

Château Haut-Bergey 2016 Pessac-Leognan - 91pts

Château Haut-Bergey 2016 (Pessac-Léognan) Bordeaux - France

Availability
: Private wine shops
Cost: $45-55
Alcohol: 13%
Date Tasted: January 15th, 2019

Tasting Notes: This youthful, inky-purple wine offers an intense nose of both dark berry fruit and earthy, iron aromas. A generous, fruit-leading palate follows with good structure and mouthfeel, firm tannins and added notes of toasted oak. Needs several hours to open up, improving the balance between its masculine and feminine characteristics. Best to give this wine another 2-3 years to resolve this balance in bottle. Drink 2021-2026.

2006 Chateau De Fieuzal - 89pts

2006 Chateau De Fieuzal (Pessac-Léognan) Bordeaux - France

Availability
: Limited
Cost: $35-40
Alcohol: 13%
Date Tasted: March 17th, 2013

Tasting Notes: With a modest amount of age under its belt, this charming Pessac-Léognan gem delivers the graphite, smoky oak and cassis aromas and flavours that Bordeaux lovers hope to find when then extract a patiently waiting bottle from their cellar. Doesn't have the complexity or length of a classed growth, yet, for the price, makes a nice, approachable wine, perfect for mid-term cellaring. Drink now-2016.

Tasting Notes: Elegant and polished from the refined, cherry, field berry, cassis and savoury oak infused nose through to the dry, blackberry puree, poppy seed, licorice and rhubarb influenced palate. Smooth, fine tannins frame the juicy entry and long, spicy finish. Drinking nicely now with ample decanting but will improve greatly over time for the patient among you. Drink 2011-2018.
