Chateau Rahoul 2013 Blanc - 86+pts

Chateau Rahoul 2013 Blanc (Graves) Bordeaux - France

Availability: Limited
Cost: $25-30
Alcohol: 12.5%
Date Tasted: December 16th, 2017

Tasting Notes: A golden-hued, pungent blend of 80% Semillon and 20% Sauvignon Blanc with baked lemon, white flowers, apricot, lemon grass and a touch of mint on the nose and palate. Missing an acidic kick on the long finish to balance the oily texture. Ready to go now or cellar for another 5-6 years to bring out the unctuous qualities of the Semillon further. Drink now-2022.

Château Saint-Jean-Des-Graves 2008 Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc - 87-88pts

Château Saint-Jean-Des-Graves 2008 Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc (Graves) Bordeaux - France

Availability: BCLDB stores. Private wine shops.

Cost: $23.95

Alcohol: 12%

Date Tasted: May 3rd, 2010

Tasting Notes: White wines from Bordeaux rarely get the attention from casual wine enthusiasts that they should. Usually associating Bordeaux with giant reds, built to age, we forget that white Bordeaux wines aren't always sweet and can be bright and refreshing. That is certainly the case with this dry, Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc (50-50) blend from Graves.

Fresh aromas of green apples, minerals, grass, pears, grapefruit and honey on the nose continue through to the medium-bodied, well-balanced palate. Excellent acidity and mouth feel with a moderate-length finish. This is a bright and satisfying, good quality wine that tastes of Bordeaux. Drink now through 2014.

Chateau Roquetaillade 2005 La Grange - 88pts

Chateau Roquetaillade 2005 La Grange (Graves) Bordeaux - France

Availability: Widely available. BCLDB stores

Cost: $25.99

Alcohol: 12.5%

Date Tasted: January 1st, 2010

Tasting Notes: This dark garnet coloured wine offers great value for those interested in Bordeaux wines but are intimidated by the price of many of the more famous Chateau. Produced in the outstanding 2005 vintage, this blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot and 13% Cabernet Franc delivers old-world subtlety with cassis, blueberry aromas and floral notes on the nose.

The medium-plus bodied palate offers developing flavours of cassis, leather, pencil shavings and vanilla with well integrated, medium-plus tannins and medium acidity. A good wine to pair with roasted, savory meats and hearty vegetables. Drink now through 2013. - LC
