Chakana 2009 Yaguarete Collection Syrah - 85pts

Chakana 2009 Yaguarete Collection Syrah (Mendoza) Argentina

Availability: BCLDB stores
Cost: $13-15
Alcohol: 14%
Date Tasted: December 9th, 2010

Tasting Notes: "I'd like a juicy, with a side-order of juicy please." "One Chakana Syrah coming right up sir!"

Add a touch of mint, dark berries and cherry cola and you've described the simple, but effective "Yaguarete Collection" Syrah from Chakana, a blended wine from multiple vineyard sites in the Andes mountains of Mendoza, Argentina. The concentration is a bit over-extracted and the finish is disappointingly short, but the flavours, texture and food-friendliness is satisfying. A decent wine for the price. Drink 2010-2012.

Chakana Wiphala 2008 Malbec/Syrah - 86pts

Chakana Whiphala 2008 Malbec/Syrah (Mendoza) Argentina

Decanted: Vinturi

Cost: $15.99 (BC Liquor Store)

Date Tasted: September 2, 2009

Tasting Notes: The appearance was concentrated purple. The nose had hints of caramel, minerality, and smoke, The palate had very slight sweetness, chalk, vanilla, and plum with a good dose of tannins. The finish was warm and long.

Overall this wine had a distinct nose, was thick and fairly well balanced with good complexity. A very nice wine for a good price. A great recommendation and would do well with any BBQ. HC
