Tasting Notes: Worthy of one's cellar, this 100% Merlot brute from Golden Mile Bench winery Cassini Cellars is a tasty treat full of dark berry, earthy peat, smoky licorice, toasted oak, dark chocolate and cherry-cola candy aromas and flavours. The sublime nose also delights with aromatics notes of rose petals. One of BC's top Merlots.

Although approachable now, to get the most of your investment I recommend another year or two in the cellar before opening. Blessed with excellent tannin structure and mouth-watering acidity, the Nobilus has the right stuff to hold another 6-7 years. Drink 2012-2017.

  1. Drinking the 2008 Nobilus right now--an understatement to say I'm disappointed. Overly alcoholic Barbie-doll wine: too sweet, no middle, and no finish. It might have shown some balance a year or two ago, but the tannins are now bathed in a syupy sweet effusion of nothingness. Some kind of alcholic beverage offering hints of kirsch and chocolate aromas but very little wine-like or varietal character. Sorry I spent the money.

  2. I agree with above comment. However, it pains me because I love Cassini Cellars, especially the 2008 Collector's Series Syrah. I opened the Nobilus with some expectation and actually re-corked it for tomorrow or another day. That's wine for you though. I won't hesitate to buy Cassini as I've mostly loved it.

    1. I am re-posting to my comment.
I had re-corked this last night after first trying it. Cam home from work today and poured a glass to try it again. Wow!!! Diffrerent wine completely. If you have this, either decant it for at LEAST one hour, or open it and let it breath in-bottle for a half hour, then cork it and have it the next day. Wonderful.
