Winemaker's Cut 2019 Boho Zen - 86pts

Availability
: Direct from the winery
 here
Cost: $26 (including taxes)
Alcohol: 12.5%

Production: 700 cases
Date Tasted: May 22nd, 2020

Tasting Notes: The Boho Zen is a 90/10 split of Syrah and Merlot which saw zero oak contact and relied on a naturally accumulated yeast on the skins to spontaneous fermentation. The lack of time in the barrel enhances the youthful, juicy nature of this wine which offers a Beaujolais Nouveau-like profile on the fresh and casual nose where mixed berry and floral notes dominate
and on the vibrant, spicy palate where racy acidity makes a lively pairing with the underlying savoury and wild berry flavours.

A casual wine for casual foods. Think BBQ favourites with fresh slices of tomatoes. Enjoy in its youth. Drink now-2022.

Production: 440 cases
Date Tasted: May 3rd, 2020

Tasting Notes: Keeping true to its feminine profile roots, the 2018 edition of SpearHead's Summerland-sourced Pinot Noir also offers a beautiful array of warm, savoury spices on the aromatic nose and on the brambly fruit and sun-kissed, earthy palate. Though the alcohol levels are actually a tad less than the previous vintage, the 2018's slightly more svelte body leaves more heat in the mouth without affecting the long, smoked-spice finish.

Currently, this youthful wine is better on the second night suggesting more time in the bottle should yield more further development and integration. Drink 2021-2024+.

Winemaker's Cut 2019 Sauvignon Blanc - 89pts

Winemaker's Cut 2019 Sauvignon Blanc (Oliver) Okanagan Valley - BC

Availability
Direct from the winery here
Cost: $26 (including taxes)
Alcohol: 12%

Production: 800 cases
Date Tasted: April 30th, 2020

Tasting Notes: BC Sauvignon Blanc is underrated. Sure, there is sub-par BCSB in the market, but a number of producers have chosen the right sites for this ancient variety and it has rewarded them handsomely. The Winemaker's Cut Blanc is sourced from a single vineyard in Oliver and, thankfully, it brings The Funk. Not overtly, like some of the stinkier versions from New Zealand. This one is more subtlety funky, like a punchy baseline you air-guitar along with at an afternoon,
Jazz-Funk festival. Especially on the crisp'n'tart, grassy-citrus, mineral-kissed finish.

Full of texture, on the palate, and offering a medley of citrus, tropical and orchard fruit notes throughout with raw honey aromas showing on the nose after a chance to open up. Ready to go now or hold for another year or two. Drink now-2022.
