Tasting Notes: An Icon Wines favourite, Naramata Bench producer La Frenz Winery don't release a Gewurztraminer every vintage. On the nose this 2006 version is a bit of an odd duck as you get classic Sauvignon Blanc aromas of gooseberry and cat's pee along with more tradition Gewurztraminer scents of apple and pear. The orchard fruit aromas carry through to the palate along with flavours of crap apple, minerals, lemon zest and hints of spice with medium acidity and finish.
Despite the confusing nose, this is a tasty wine and if you can get a hold of a bottle do give it a try. This pale-gold wine should pair nicely with spicy Asian fare. Drink now. - LC
