Tasting Notes: Another excellent red from Oliver, BC producer Fairview Cellars. Winemaker Bill Eggert has developed a name for his impressive Meritage blend "The Bear" but his single varietals deserve more attention and this Merlot is no exception.
This is an elegant and supremely smooth wine that offers youthful aromas of leather, pencil shavings and cassis on the nose. On the palate this medium-bodied wine offers flavours of dark fruit, peppercorns with notes of candied cherries. A very well-balanced Merlot with a long, long finish that is just becoming approachable now but is still tasting young and would benefit from another year or two of aging. With such well-structured tannins and balanced acid this wine should age well for another 4-5 years. - LC
